COSTA RICA: March 8-20, 2017

Acton High School will once again venture south with Journey South Eco Travel to explore the beauty and culture of Costa Rica.  This 13 day trip will include a visit to Poas Volcano, time spent with the Terraba Indigenous Community and 5 days at Campanario Biological Reserve, considered the most biodiverse place on Earth !  This trip is limited to 20 students.  Information packages can be found by seeing Madelle or Mr. Kovich in room 104 or the Languages office.

The Koviches have had 7 successful AHS overseas trips as well as numerous camping, hiking and outdoor adventure trips with students.  We invite you to email either Kovich with any questions you may have:

Vimy Ridge - April 2017

We are ready to experience the 100th Anniversary of the Battle for Vimy Ridge--The Battle that defined a nation. We are pairing up with White Oaks Secondary School to participate in this once-in-a-life time opportunity. The application process is now closed.

Iceland - March Break 2016 (9 Days)

Mr. Braun and Mr. Leblanc are ran a trip to Iceland for March of 2016.

The trip was a huge success and we ended up with 40 students joining us to the volcanic arctic island!

Guyana Trip - July 6-22 2014

Mr. Leblanc and Mr. Braun took yet another group of students on a summer science excursion to Guyana as part of an OpWall ( Operation Wallacea - www.opwall.com ) ecological conservation research program. [ More Information and Video Overview of Trip ]

Costa Rica -The Cloud Forest Project April 11 - 22, 2014

Mark and Amy Kovich took another group of students into the five distinct Ecological Zones in the Cloud Forests of Costa Rica. The cost of the trip includes everything - a day trip to the Luna Project near Cambridge on October 26 for a day of education on sustainable living, and the 12 day trip to Costa Rica including everything while we're there.

South Africa - March Break (2 weeks) 2013

Mr. Leblanc and Mr. Braun took a group of 20 students to South Africa this as part of an OpWall ( Operation Wallacea -www.opwall.com ) ecological conservation research program. The trip involved a week of research, lectures, and safaris at Struwig Eco Reserve just outside Kruger National Park and the second week was spent at Sodwana Bay; here students snorkeled and learned from scientists about marine reef ecology research.

Honduras - July 2011

Mr. Leblanc and Mr. Braun took a group of 18 students to Honduras this summer as part of an OpWall (Operation Wallacea - www.opwall.com) ecological conservation research program. The trip involved a week of research in a unique cloud rainforest in Cusuco National Park and the second week was spent on the island of Cayos Cochinos (Minor); here students did their open water dive training to become certified divers and then helped scientists with marine reef ecology research.

England & France - March Break 2011

The two Koviches and Roescher will be taking a group of students to London, the Normandy Beaches, then on to Paris over March Break. An excited group of students and their parents will be meeting the teachers for an information session on Feb 9 in the Library at 7:00 pm for an hour-long meeting.

Germany, Austria & Switzerland - March Break 2010

The Koviches and Herr Roeschmeister took an eager group of students on a tour through the Alps. We enjoyed visits to Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Lucerne and Heidelburg and a good time was had by all.

Peru - March Break 2009

Acton students had the amazing opportunity of travelling to the Amazon rainforest in Peru for two weeks over the March break. 17 Students and two teachers (Mr. Braun & Ms. Pugh) travelled to Peru to work as part of a ecological conservation research group. While there we observed species native to the region and participated in some amazing excursions. This trip was organized by Operation Wallacea (www.opwall.com)

Honduras - Summer 2007

Mr. Leblanc took 10 Students to Honduras. 1 week in mountain rain forrest and 1 week on Utila Island Scuba Diving. We worked with biologists on terrestrial and aquatic research projects. Highlights included using ropes and climbing gear to access the forest canopy 30 meters off the ground to watch the sun ride over the mountains, hiking to a secluded tropical waterfall. On the island we dove on a wreck and experienced the amazing glowing algae during a night dive. This trip was organized by Operation Wallacea (www.opwall.com)
